When you find a honey bee hive on or near your Palmetto home, do not try to deal with these potentially dangerous insects yourself. The State of Florida officially recommends that any feral bee hives be considered as Africanized Honey Bees (AHB) or “Killer Bees”, and be destroyed as a precaution. Spraying with a household insecticide can kill many, but not all of the bees in the hive. Those that remain will sacrifice themselves in order to sting and bite any threat to their queen (YOU).
Often it is the Palmetto pets and neighbors who suffer from an amateur bee removal. Even the European Honey Bee will go after whatever is moving when they perceive an attack on the hive. The AHB will go even further to find a victim to sting, and will attack with much more ferocity.
